SITAR - سه تار - persian ＆ indian virtual instruments․ The sitar is a plucked stringed instrument widely used in Hindustani music․ The exact origin of the sitar is unknown‚ but it is believed that it appeared about 700 years ago in the Mughal Empire in India․ The 16th-century Sufi poet Amir Khosrow greatly contributed to his popularity․
